KingRex QS1
Stereo Power Amplifier

KingRex' first, but not last, foray into Tripath power amplifiers, codenamed Quintessence, is based on the TA2022 DPP chipset and outputs 50W per channel into 8 ohms and incorporates everything the company has learnt in developing its award-winning T20 integrated amplifiers and high-end PREference pre-amp.

Everything about this stereo power amp bespeaks careful component selection: from the new black anodised aluminium case to the massive toroidal transformer and insulated gold plated outputs and gold-plated RCAs.

Sonically, it's exactly what you'd expect from KingRex: draw a straight line through the improvements made to a T20U by the PSU, then by adding the preamp . . . the Quintessence QS-1 sounds exactly like a more powerful version of all of the above. Fortunately it has retained all the even-handed delicacy of the lower powered TA2020-based products, but allied it with greater control of speakers and a much taller and wide soundstage. If anything, it's more detailed than the Tripath amps that have done before, but in this implementation it finds greater transparency without sounding in the least bit glassy or tipped up in the treble..
