Tripath amplifiers and low-power DACs benefit hugely from clean power. Significant performance gains are possible if you can power your digital transport (dock or audio PC) with a linear regulated PSU, too. To power an Intel Atom-based computer, we strongly recommend the Zotac Ion boards and PicoPSU 90W with this power supply, incidentally. Unfortunately, good power supplies, like the KingRex linear regulated unit, don't come cheap.

Filling the need for a high quality but proportionally priced power supply matched to 12V audio devices like DC-powered DACs and Tripath amplifiers, our new dual output 4A supply is also a linear, regulated power supply that outputs a Tripath-friendly 12.8V, but costs approximately one third the price of the KingRex PSU.

The bench power supply on which our 12V PSU is based represents a great combination of value and performance, but outputs a chip-melting 13.8V. Our modifications reduce the output to an ideal voltage and add a pair of the finest coaxial connectors to enable good quality DC-DC leads to be used.

Dual outputs make this four amp power supply uniquely flexible: power a pair of Tripath amps in a bi-amping setup, run a SuperPro or UD-01 DAC in addition to a 12V 'Class T' amp, or power an Atom-based motherboard and a DAC from the one, clean supply.

Although we released the Item Audio PSU to match our own 12V products, it will provide a big upgrade for any amplifier, DAC or hi-fi component with a 12V DC input and sounds great with TA2020 and TA2024 amps. We also offer special bundle prices on this PSU when purchased in combination with KingRex and other products.

The power supply has a captive 240V for mains connection and dual 2.5mm DC outputs, but does not come with a DC lead. Standard 0.5mm DC leads can be purchased from Maplins, or any electrical store.
