CryoParts' all new Mark II bespoke USB audio cable deploys some of the tricks learned in production of their high-end Locus cables to yield an audiophile-grade interconnect that is the cheapest way to demonstrate a major improvement over the 99p peripheral cable bottleneck.

In terms of nuts and bolts, the freshly upgraded Mark II CryoParts USB cable is based on Cryoparts' new £15 per metre bespoke, braided unidirectional 99.9998% pure copper Sapphire Pro Interconnect wire, to which extra layers of EFI/RMI shielding and damping are applied, along with Stillpoints ERS fabric at critical junctions and carbon fibre braiding. Terminators are Cryoparts' own custom-made gold-plated plugs. Finally, the whole cable is subject to dry, slow-cool, deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) in which the interconnect reaches a temperature of lower than -285°F. Why?

Deep Cryo Treatment makes desirable alterations to the microstructure of metals – many knife and sword makers use this process to create a more uniform hardness and greater dimensional stability, due to the conversion of austenite (large unstable particles of carbon carbide, resulting in a large grained lattice structure) to martensite (fine grained lattice structure). Also, residual stresses are created during the manufacture of copper, silver, or brass components. For example, microscopic examination of the copper in an AC cord would reveal many voids in the crystal lattice structure of the copper due to these residual stresses. Deep cryogenic treatment works at the atomic level; research indicates that, as the temperature decreases, atomic bonds weaken and the crystal structure of copper reverts to its original state and reforms smoothly, erasing these stress flaws. Or maybe it's just voodoo.

Though the science is far from fully understood, you can easily determine the value of these modifications with your own ears: resolution, timing, dynamics are all instantly improved – revealing the presence of layers of 'digital mush' present when using the standard USB cable.
